Adrigole GAA Club, in Beara fondly remembers Aidan Cremin, on his 1st Anniversary & Ashling Murphy

On Wednesday 19th of January in conjunction with their weekly "Ireland Lights Up Walk", held a blessing of their new walkway and a vigil for Ashling Murphy which also coincided with Garda Aidan Cremin’s 1st Anniversary.

To mark this event the club lit candles within the pitch boundaries in a treble A representing the club Adrigole, Aidan and Ashling. Also on the night those in attendance showed their sympathies through the signing of a book of condolence for Ashling and joined in solidarity by lighting a candle and spreading around the walkway while a minute silence was observed. Following this traditional music was played along with Eimear signing while those in attendance completed a lap of the walkway as a mark to the journey Ashling never got to complete.

The club wish to thank all those who contributed to the organising and running of the event on the night with special thanks to Fr Martin Sheehan, musician’s Kieran O’Shea, Sean O’Shea, Kate Lyons, John Coakley & Ashley Houlihan and singer Eimear Carey.

Here are some of my pictures from last night's event!

I'm not sure they do justice to the amount of work and planning that must have gone into this event!!

The pitch was fantastic and clearly visible high up on Massmount.

There must have been a few thousand candles it was a spectacular sight.

The turnout was huge both at Aidan's Anniversary mass and the vigil/blessing at the pitch afterwards. Aidan's work colleagues, friends, Gaa members and a large attendance of young people showed the high esteem in which Aidan was held in by the Adrigole Community.

The picture of Ashling with candles in the shape of a heart and a book of condolence along with the no 23 Jersey and two hurls pitch side a sad reminder of two people no longer with us!

May they both rest in peace! Ar dheis Dé go raibh n-anamacha!

The minutes silence, the music , the crowd with the candles walking around the pitch while the lights were out all added to the occasion!

Congratulations and well done to all involved in organising this very moving event!
