Congratulations to the victorious Berehaven Golf Club Team who won the All Ireland in Donegal on Thursday.

In Wednesdays semi final Berehaven faced a fancied Ballinasloe team who, were also in the all Ireland semi final of the Junior Cup. Tight in match 1 all throughout but a Seamus Spencer birdie on 17 after a great approach to a back right pin saw them go 1 up going up 18. Spencer form the middle of the fairway with a 5 iron played a glorious shot to 6 feet to all but guarantee the match. Jamie Corbett played a great pitch from just short of the green than ran just by the edge of the hole leaving Spencer two putts for the match with Brendan also In close for par.

In match two a lucky half on the 7th to stay 1 down saw Dec and Luke take off with 4 birdies in a row to go 3up and went on to win 5&4. Berehaven's other winning point came from Liam Hanley and Gavin Power with both playing impressive golf especially the 2 handicap sharp shooter Hanley who had several approached dialled in close to the flag. Pair 3 Chris and David were called in and Lorcan and Dean went down in a high quality game 5.

Berehaven through to face Baltinglass with an unchanged team named for the final

In match 1 O Driscoll turned on the style with a top quality display of ball striking in what was in the end a very strong wind. They went on to win 5&3 and that was in fact the second point of the day and Chris and David recorded a big 6&5 win with quality golf. Liam and Gavin went down in game 4 where Baltinglass played very well after being 2 down after 2 holes. It was over to Dec and Luke then and holding a 2 up lead after 14 Dunne fired a lovely iron from the rough to the front edge on a long par 4 playing into a strong wind. His lag putt was great for pace and just a little left but he held his nerve to hole out for a win and leave them 3 up with 3 to play. Very similar on the next with Dec 2 putting from range for the match. Lorcan and Dean were called in playing game five as the title had been guaranteed with 3 winning points. Fittingly they were standing only about ten yards from the green where the winning putt was held so were able to join in the celebrations quickly. Berehavens first All Ireland title in the bag.

Berehaven the clubs first All Ireland title!!!

The Club and those who were unable to travel to support the team were delighted and asked me to give a special thanks to Joss Crowley who live streamed the competition and kept everyone up to date! Well done Joss!!

The team arrived back to Beara last night with the Jimmy Bruen Shield. A large crowd gathered along the route with bonfires and fireworks to greet the victorious team.

What a huge achievement for a small club in Beara, West Cork to win an All Ireland

I'm sure this win will be a huge boost to the club!! The single thing that struck me last night was the HUGE RESPECT AND TIME THE YOUNGER PLAYERS HAD FOR THEIR COACHES WHO BROUTHT THEM THROUGH THE RANKS they were very insistent that they had photographs taken with them and the genuine appreciation they had for all the knowledge they had passed on to them!!! Take a well deserved bow Timmy Lynch and JJ McLaughlin & Rose Hanley and Brendan O Driscoll !!!

Delighted to be part of the home coming and get some lovely family photographs that I'm sure the lads will treasure.
